Mikey de Lara
Not only is every one of Mikey de Lara's live shows different and unique from the last, he's constantly
asks who he is as a musician: a soulful singer-songwriter able to delve into a driving rock tune with
the same ease that he can a reaching love song or a lullaby. de Lara’s sincerity is hard to come by
and it’s exactly why this fast rising star has developed his following.  He has been able to do what
too many fail to do—find a core audience that appreciates his candid performances, his melodic
vocals, and his hard-hitting lyrics. “I’ve always tried to connect with the hardest-to-reach feelings in
my songs,” he says. “The second I start playing tunes that don’t feel like anything, it’s time to start
writing a whole new batch of songs.”

de Lara’s voice can sound achingly beautiful while singing a ballad or equally powerful when he
releases a growling scream. He’s been referred to as Eddie Vedder meets Glen Hansard and Kurt
Cobain mixed with John Mayer.  All those comparisons, however don’t do justice to the fact that
Mikey’s voice is simply unique: the humanity in his voice is striking. With the detail of his lyrics, de
Lara communes with the audience that the story of this song is a real experience.  The result is
connection with the heart and soul and stories we can all relate to. From his song “Holding On”: “The
things that we can’t see connect us all/ So I say to you must be holding on/to the memory of a life that’
s come and gone/ So long/ ‘Cause if you wanted to watch the night turn into dawn…”

In August 2008, Big Sky Record Company released “Songs for Lulu,”  Mikey’s first solo release.
The songs come from a place that we all know; the songs, hauntingly familiar. When Mikey brought
in heavyweight producer Mike Butler (The Boxcutters) and a team of seasoned session musicians,
“Songs for Lulu” became something greater than the sum of its parts.

In a town of of talkers and hustlers, Mikey de Lara is a breath of fresh air.  A fan that really sums his
talents up best: “With most musicians, there’s the singer, the crowd, and a layer in between. With
Mikey, there’s no layer. It’s just Mikey and the audience.”
